Have An Attitude of Gratitude This Season
Posted on November 16, 2022
Sola Salons
Being grateful makes us feel happier. It really is that simple! And as we near the end of 2022, it's important to look for the positives and to practice gratitude every chance we get. Find ways to focus on the everyday things that fill you with joy to set the tone for the rest of this year, and set yourself up for a much more hopeful and fulfilling future. Start practicing an attitude of gratitude to unlock the fullness of life each and every day.
Write It Down
You take plenty of time for personal hygiene, right? But do you give yourself permission to keep your emotional life squeaky clean, too? Find 5 minutes daily to jot down a few things you love. We recommend doing it the old-fashioned way: Ditch the device, grab a pen and paper, and write down something you're grateful for about your day — anything from feelings, to moments and events, to people who make your life better. In addition to reinforcing positive thoughts, journaling also helps us achieve personal goals — big bonus.
Live Moment To Moment
Instead of simply going through the motions to "make it through" your day, try to really relish the experience you’re having, even if it isn’t 100 percent perfect. Whether it's in-between clients or going for a short walk, make a habit of finding time to be present. When we live in the moment – any moment – we’re way less likely to take our bountiful blessings for granted.
Decorate Your Studio With Subtle Reminders
We’re human, and sometimes we forget to practice gratitude. Give your memory a break and incorporate a few visual cues into your studio décor. From artwork with an inspirational quote to a treasured family heirloom, anything that’s meaningful to you will do the trick. You could even create your own gratitude board with images that remind you what you feel thankful for.
Ditch Social Media
Not forever — just for a few minutes! When you rely on social media to stay in touch with everyone at once, it's easy to lose personalized one-on-one connections. We recommend picking up the phone and giving those special friends and family members a call when you have a few extra minutes. Or, set up a time to FaceTime or Zoom call to still nourish the face-to-face communication that might be lacking with long-distance friends or relatives.
Get Your Sweat On
After you’ve clocked out, make it a point to get a workout in! Whether it's going to the gym, attending a yoga class (even in your living room), or going for a long evening walk, spend that time to reflect on the people and things that make you grateful. Plus, many studies show that people who exercise on a regular basis benefit from a positive boost in mood and lower rates of anxiety and depression.
Speak Up
Grateful people have developed habits to help maintain their feelings of gratitude — and one of those habits is tied to linguistics. You can focus on all of the good things around you just by talking about them. So go ahead and try using more positive words in your daily speech patterns. Here are a few to get you started: blessed, lucky, fortunate, glad, abundant, plenty, and – of course – thank you.
Pay It Forward
Direct service to others definitely gets that good juju going. Making small gestures, such as sponsoring a meal for a needy family during the holidays or donating to a local food bank, helps the community more thank you know. Connect with your local leasing manager and see if you can do something together — There are so many awesome ways to give back this time of year!
Make It Personal
During this busy time of year, it may feel like you have drifted apart from your Sola BFF's down the hall. With more and more clients and fewer social interactions, it can be hard to let them know you're still there for them. Shoot them a quick text to let them know you're thinking of them, then schedule a day to grab a coffee, lunch, or drinks for happy hour!
Show The Love
We know you are grateful for your clients all the time, but you're probably feeling extra blessed for them this holiday season. Showing the love — even something as simple as a personalized text to your best clients saying thank you for their loyalty this year — can be all it takes to make them feel valued and appreciated. Remember, when it comes to gratitude, it's often the little things that make the biggest impact.
Fake It ‘Til You Make It
If you aren’t really feeling the gratitude vibe just yet, that’s fine — going through the motions of being grateful can actually incite genuine feelings of gratitude. Try smiling even when you don’t feel like it, and remember to say “thank you” to the people who show kindness to you... there's no telling how far a little bit of kindness can go!
Practice Makes Perfect
The best way to build a habit is through consistency. If you want to reap the benefits of gratitude, then you’ll need to practice being grateful on a regular basis. Make a conscious decision today to be grateful, and follow up on that vow by employing one or more of the tactics listed above.
We’re truly grateful for our incredible Sola Fam! Thank you for being our "why" 💙
